In late 2008 Owen Kilburn was selected to become a ‘Young Ambassador’ for the City of Nottingham in the build up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Young Ambassadors are selected due to their sporting talent, and also due to their outstanding commitment and ability as young leaders or volunteers. Owen was selected by Nottingham Emmanuel School to become a Young Ambassador, due to his achievements in his chosen sport, winning various medals at the 4 Nations ParaBadminton Championships over the last few years.

The role of a Young Ambassador involves increasing participation in school sport and PE, spreading the word of the Olympic and Paralympic Values – respect, friendship, personal excellence, courage, determination, inspiration and equality and promoting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
