Triple Gold for Blazers Pair
The Welsh leg of the 4 Nations Parabadminton Championships took place over the weekend of 10th -11th September at the Sport Wales National Centre, Cardiff. 69 participants took part across 4 categories; Learning Disabilities (LD), Dwarves, Standing and Wheelchair.
The standard of the wheelchair players was one of the most competitive, As Blazers pair Paula Robinson and Owen Kilburn got off to a great start as they took gold in the Wheelchair mixed doubles final, with a comfortable win over Gobi Ranganathan (Herts, England) & Fiona Christie (Scotland) 21/11, 21/14.
Robinson was then to pair up with Fiona Christie in the absence of fellow club mate Bernadette O’Driscoll, with another win over Devon’s young pair Hannah Baldwin & Katherine Last 21/10, 21/11 in the ladies doubles combined final.
It was then matched by Kilburn in the men’s doubles combined final with partner Gobi Ranganathan as they beat arch rivals from Devon David Follett & Rowan Crossman 21/15, 21/17.
The ladies combined and men’s class 2 singles final’s was to be much closely fought as both Robinson and Kilburn had to dig deep overcoming their opponents in 3 games.
Firstly Robinson defeating Nicola Crow (Wales) 11/21, 21/16, 21/12 and Kilburn defeating Phillip Tew (Bucks,England) 21/13, 24/26, 21/14.
